The John A. Dillon Jr. Fellowship

  • Full Fellowship
This one year f ellowship includes a 12-month stipend (typically 25% higher than a standard GTA stipend), full tuition and graduate student health insurance.    All current and incoming graduate students are encouraged to apply.

Interested students should submit,
    • Cover letter, including a statement of research interests and/or experience
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Official GRE General and GRE Physics scores
    • Official undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) transcripts
    • At least two letters of recommendation
For incoming graduate students note that this means you must provide a cover letter (staing your wish to be considered for the Dillon Fellowship), CV and GRE Physics score in addition to the usual application materials.

For current graduate students one of the recommendation letters should be from the intended faculty mentor.
A student wishing to renew must resubmit a complete application and will be considered in competition with all other applicants.

Full Dillon Fellows are not required to perform the teaching duties of the GTA.  Incoming students are expected to become involved with a departmental research group sometime during their first year of study.  Continuing students should already be an active member of a research group.

All application materials should be sent to the attention of the Graduate Program Director, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292, USA and must be received no later than January 15 of the year in which the fellowship will be awarded.

  • Partial Fellowship

Funds may also be available to augment the standard GTA stipend and/or provide summer stipends.
Full fellowship applicants will automatically be considered for partial fellowships.
The application procedure for summer stipends is identical to that for the full fellowship, except that the GRE Physics is not required.

  • Travel Grant

Current graduate students are encouraged to apply for funding for support for research or education related travel.
Your cover letter should include a description of the purpose of the travel, together with a breakdown of the total funds requested.
The application procedure is identical to that for the full fellowship, except that the Physics GRE is not required and there is no submission deadline - applications are accepted at any time.
However, the awards committee meets only every other month; therefore, you are advised to submit application materials at least three months before funding is required.

Please note that all fellowships, stipends and grants are offered contingent upon availability of funds.
